Indian Super League Curse or Gift For Indian Football House?

Indian Super League India's Glamorous Football Tournament is Curse or Gift for Indian Football house and its Talent?

Indian Super League Or ISL is a professional football league in India. At the top of the Indian league system, it is one of the country's premier football league competitions together with the I-league . The league is currently contested by ten teams and each season runs from October to March. Each team currently plays 18 matches during the league stage, with the top four qualifying for the playoffs. With top four it institute knock out stage (Home-Away system). Almost all the football heavyweight of India plays in ISL, despite that fact ISL failed to bring glory to its crown. Why?

League Structure: In every top football leagues of the world, a Champion is decided according to topper of the league table. But that system is not followed in ISL. Hence, most of the thriller and excitement of the league is reduced due to it being a knock-out round.

No Relegation & Promotion: There is no relegation & promotion system in ISL, it consists of 10 clubs. As a result, lower division clubs are not promoted to upper division & talented players never get a chance.

Major Financial Loss: Most of the clubs are into major financial loss. Last year none of the Clubs earned a profit except North East United FC. Rest of the clubs incurred a loss of about 30 crores.

Poor Attendance: Attendance of ISL is decreasing gradually. Last season(2018 – 19), the highest attendance in ISL was 41,202 (Kerala Blasters vs ATK). whereas in I-League, the attendance of East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan (also known as the "Kolkata Derby") in both the legs were 64,867 & 62,628 respectively. Attendance of a non-derby match (East Bengal vs Churchill Brothers) was 43,758. ISL clubs generally do huge promotion & marketing compared to that I-League Clubs do almost nil. In spite of that, the attendance of ISL has been a huge concern for the organiser Reliance and respective Club owners.

Less Interaction: Like MLS(Major League Soccer,USA) ISL is also a franchise based tournament.People from India more attracted to entertainment than footbal. ISL is one of that tournament where entertainment is more superior than emotion, passion towards football. In 2018 at Hero Continental cup, Sunil Chetri, the Indian Legend Had to beg for support, urge fans to come at stadium and cheer for National Team.

This is nothing but a small plea from me to you. Take out a little time and give me a listen. pic.twitter.com/fcOA3qPH8i

It is sadden to see a nation of 1.3 bn, still neglect football, where as it is the most wonderfull sports of World. With all the backlash still Indian Football Fans from now dreaming for something best, as ISL club-franchise acquired one of oldest club Mohun Bagan. East Bengal is still keen to follow their footsteps but in different way, to play ISL with association of independent investor or sponsor.
